How to play Word Scramble

Tips and strategy

  • Find the vowels first. Most English words alternate vowels and consonants. Placing the vowels gives you the shape of the word.
  • Look for common endings. If you see I, N and G, try -ING at the end. E and D suggest -ED. E and R suggest -ER.
  • Spot letter pairs. TH, CH, SH, QU, CK and ST almost always stay together. Join them first and the rest gets easier.
  • Say it out loud. Sounding out possible syllables often triggers the answer faster than staring at the letters.
  • Don’t get stuck. The clock keeps running. If a word won’t come, make your best guess and move on to protect your score.
